Scott Mitchell, a former NFL Quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, and Cincinnati Bengals, is a Springville resident and was recently a contestant on the show The Biggest Loser.  “I was motivated to do this because I was overweight and my dad died from being overweight and having diabetes, and I wanted to set a good example for my kids,” said Scott Mitchell. Scott Mitchell wanted to start eating healthier and get his life back.

It all started out last year explained Madi Mitchell, a ninth grader at SJHS and Scott Mitchell's daughter, “My dad wasn’t eating healthy. He had a lot of bad habits, and it was hard to do a lot of active things like go on a hike or do anything active together.”

She explained, “The reason my dad went and decided to be on The Biggest Loser was…we were at a football game at The University of Utah and my dad saw an ad for The Biggest Loser. He wanted to change his life, so he decided to give them a call and try out.” Scott then got a call back and he decided to go to California to audition. Once he was in California he didn’t return home and their family knew that meant he was going to be on The Biggest Loser show. “When my dad was gone it was really hard, and we couldn’t call him. We could only write letters, and he only got them when they let him have them,” explained Madi Mitchell. “My dad was away from us for four to five months, so it was really hard”, she continued.

Zach Mitchell, a seventh grader at SJHS and another one of Scott Mitchell’s kids, said, “It was hard seeing my dad leave and I was really sad.”

Madi Mitchell said, “When my dad got home I was so happy to see him! He took us shopping to Costco and we bought healthy food and made amazing recipes that were really good and healthy.”

In the magazine Utah Valley University, the article “Perspective: ‘Biggest Loser’” Scott Mitchell said, “I came on this show to inspire people and my family to be healthy and not throw away your life.” He wanted to be a role model and like his kids said “get his life back.”
