BYU Student Teachers Join Mrs. Gleave’s Class

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

When you are trying to become a teacher, it can be very hard to get an experience with students in a classroom.  Usually, you have to learn on the job.  But sometimes, college students get the opportunity to come into classrooms and learn from what the teachers do.  We now have two such teachers here at Springville Junior High.  Their names are Ms. Gardner and Ms. Rowley, and they are BYU students looking to become math teachers.  They are here at SJHS to teach and learn in Mrs. Gleave’s room.  According to Ms. Rowley, BYU asked Mrs. Gleave if she wouldn’t mind “mentoring” a couple of student teachers from BYU, and Mrs. Gleave agreed.

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

Here at Springville Junior High we would like to recognize some of our great and  talented singers. Most of these students have been singing for as long as they can remember. They also have been singing in choir since seventh grade with Mrs. Walker, the choir teacher at Springville Junior High. They sing almost everyday and are natural born singers.

Spencer Johnson, an eighth grader, said, “ You don't really learn it, just comes naturally, and I sing everyday.”  Spencer Johnson now in the Journeymen choir.  Last year he was a Apprentice Singer.

SJHS Displays Great Courage

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

As many students may know, Springville Junior High has a different virtue they focus on each month. October’s virtue is courage. SJHS does monthly virtues to incorporate special attributes to the students lives, and to encourage students to think about them. These virtues are also qualities that SJHS faculty and staff look for in Super Knights.

Red Ribbon Week Assembly

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

During the week of October 8-10, Springville Junior High School had Red Ribbon Week.  Some students think of Red Ribbon Week as the chance to dress up, which is true, but the real intent of Red Ribbon Week is to make students become aware of the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  According to Jacqueline Bradford, student council president, Red Ribbon Week is a fun way for students to commit to not using drugs.

September Super Knight Assembly

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

On Thursday, September 28th, Springville Junior High School held their first assembly to honor the school’s Super Knights. Super Knights are students that are chosen because they are hard workers, friendly to others, try their best, and are all-around good students. They try to be examples of the school’s DRSL’s (Desired Results for Student Learning): effective communicators, responsible citizens, and successful learners. Teachers nominate these students. Only six students are nominated every month: a girl and a boy from each grade. The seventh grade Super Knights are Chloe Wimmer and Jake Distefano. The eighth grade Super Knights are Kielle Popham and Stone Harding.
