Quest Time

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

Quest Time, a time when students relax and unwind or do homework, or in the case of karaoke, scream so loud that talking is nigh impossible. The point is that for many a student Quest Time is their favorite time of day. Even teachers love it. “I enjoy the part of Quest Time where I get to help students learn,” says Mr. Taylor, a CTE teacher.

Mr. Hatfield agrees that, “Quest Time is the best idea that we have as a school at this time.”

Health Class Just Got better

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

We just got a new health teacher, Mrs. Severson. Jared Buhler, an eighth grader in her class, said that Mrs. Severson was a pretty chill teacher about everything, and that he learned that he is a lot weaker than he thought. He learned that when they learned about exercise. Autumn States, another eighth grader in her class, said, “Mrs. Severson  is a fun, awesome, nice teacher.” Autumn said she likes Mrs. Severson’s class, and that the coolest thing she has learned is about disorders and how they affect people. Sariah Rencher, a different eighth grader from Mrs. Severson’s class, said “She has a  lot of games, and tries to make the class fun.” Mrs.

Upcoming Events at SJHS

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

No one likes a boring school year right?  Well here at SJHS there are some really fun events that will be taking place this year!   There is Red Ribbon Week that starts on October 7th, where everyone in the school can wear wacky stuff to school and also learn how to be safe around fires and earthquakes.  Then there is Lagoon Day where all the students that have kept up their grades and made up their tardies, can go to Lagoon for a whole school day!   There are also the Super Knight assemblies, No Tardy parties, Gender Wars, the Wheel Spin during lunch that is run by the counselors, and school sports such as track and cross country meets, tennis, and golf.

School Dances

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

On Thursday, September 7th we had our first dance. It was here at the school!  We have the dances to let the kids have more fun at school, because we all have those days where we need a break, and the dances are those days!  A seventh grader, named Tanii Foster, has only gone to one dance. She said, “I think they are super fun. My favorite part is the music they play and how everyone jumps and dances!” Kaylee Marshall, an eighth grader, said, “They have good music and it’s fun to dance, but they need to give us punch!” An eighth grader, Jaxon Hartvigsen, said,  “They are fun but the music isn't the music I like and I wished more people could go to the dances.

Soon to Come- The Super Knights

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

Super Knight awards are soon to commence again, but for the seventh graders who are puzzled about what this award is, here’s an introduction.  It is an award handed out at the end of every month at SJHS, acknowledging the students who have been living up to the school standards and the monthly virtue that is established during Quest time, at the beginning of the month.   According to Mrs. Caras, ninth grade earth science teacher, the first Super Knight assembly of the school year will take place at the end of the month of October (2013).  Students are elected to be a Super Knight when each teacher nominates two students, a boy and a girl,  from each grade.

New Students At SJHS

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

How many new students do you think we have so far this year?  Ten?  Twenty?  Fifty?  Try one hundred and fifteen!  Picture yourself in their shoes, coming to a new school knowing anywhere from a few to no other students in the whole school.  “That is why we have a luncheon get to know you party about two weeks into school, so that we can get to know the students while they get to know each other,” said Mrs.

Introducing… Mrs. Wallace as the New Art Teacher

Submitted by jennifer.dunn on

A new school year means new faces to meet! This year, Springville Junior High has an abundance of new teachers. One of them is Mrs. Wallace, our new art teacher. She started teaching as a full-time teacher on Monday, September 9th. Before then, Mrs. Wallace had been teaching art courses in her basement studio and volunteering at schools in Vermillion, South Dakota. She is excited to have the opportunity to teach here at our Junior High school. She has great ideas for teaching her students. She plans on covering new techniques as well as old, learning more about the history of art, and for some of her classes, an outside museum experience. Each art class will have unique opportunities to learn and use art.
