Each year 9th graders at SJHS have the opportunity to present a TED talk in their English Classes. In her talk, Julia Hill presented on how music affects our mental health. She explains “I thought about one of my favorite things to present about.” People are nervous before they present. Julia explains it as, “I got more and more nervous every step that I took towards the front of the class.” During Julia’s TED Talk everyone was engaged. Delia Thompson says that her favorite part of Julia’s TED Talk is, “When Julia used memes that were related to all of us.” Once Julia was done she was so proud that she did it. “If TED asked me to do a real TED talk I would do it.” Julia said she likes to do projects about what she is most passionate about. When you're in 9th grade, look forward to giving your TED talk and remember these things that made Julia successful!

Getting to know Sadie Bussburg

Sadie Bussburg is one of the many great 9th graders here at Springville Junior high. Sadie Bussburg likes to dance and cheer. If Sadie could learn to do anything, she would learn how to do sign language. “I would learn sign language because my grandma signs and I think it would be cool to learn how to do.” Sadie’s favorite place she has been to is New York. “New York is my favorite because it was really fun and it was my first major trip.” Sadie’s favorite part of school is seeing her friends and all of the social aspects of school. Sadies favorite class is sewing. “I like sewing because I get to see my friends and make fun stuff.” When asked what advice do you have for 7th and 8th graders she said,” Don’t let other people get to you. Be who you are and don’t care what other people think.” Overall, Sadie Bussburg is really nice, and really fun to get to know.

Teagan Farrer-Cross Country and Engineering

One thing that Teagan would tell the future generation is “it’s not that hard.” Looking back on the past year of 2020, he is a very optimistic person.

When asked what his favorite part about Springville Junior High is, he answered “friends”. I think we can all agree with him. Outside of school, he does cross country and track and plays video games. His favorite one is Wizard of Legends. He went to Brookside Elementary and his favorite book is Five Kingdoms, which if you didn’t know is a series with, ironically, five books. Teagan’s favorite class is band because “Mr. Booth is the best and music is great.” He plans on going to BYU to get a degree in engineering and then move further on the engineering career path.

Let’s all try to look to the future with the optimistic attitude that Teagan has and remember that if we do so, “it’s not that hard.”

Maddy Boston is one of the fantastic people here at SJHS, this is her 2nd year attending here and she is in 8th grade. She is really enjoying her year even though it's a different one. She enjoys all of the many classes that are offered and she especially enjoys drama and the wide variety of classes she can take with her friends. Outside of school, she participates in competitive cheer, she is involved in the school play, playing the “Sour Kangaroo.'' She is very excited and hopeful for her future and would really love to go into the military or maybe even become a cop. Maddy is a very loving and outgoing student and if you ever need a pick up I suggest going and talking to her!
