Dear SJHS parents and guardians:
I just wanted to give you a quick update of how things have gone at the junior high today. During second period, administrators, counselors, and our school resource officer made a quick visit to each class to share some information with our students and hopefully put their minds at ease. We shared the following information with them:
- Utah County Health Dept says you are safer at school. If that changes, they will tell us and we will do what we need to do to keep you safe. There aren’t any diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in Utah County. As soon as a doctor diagnoses a case they contact the health department who contacts Nebo District who contacts us.
- How it spreads: The virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Cough or sneeze into your elbow or shirt
- Stay home if you are sick
- Anxiety is normal. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed, please visit with the counselors.
As we spoke to the students, the general feeling was one of calm, which was great to see. The day has felt like a fairly typical day at school, which is just what we hoped for.
Rather than having all students eat lunch in the cafeteria today, we put half of the lunch tables in the gym for both lunches. Students were in four separate lunches today rather than the two lunches we normally have. We would have loved to send kids outside today, but the weather didn’t cooperate with us. We will continue separating students during lunch like this next week as well.
We had a handful of subs in the building today for a variety of reasons. Students may be wondering about their teachers, but I want to confirm that we DO NOT have any known cases of COVID-19 among our teachers.
We had several unfilled sub jobs today, and we expect this to continue. If you are at all interested in subbing, we would love to have you! Please contact Kelly Services directly for an interview by calling (801) 373-1616. We will definitely need some help in the coming days, as many of our subs are retirees and may not want to sub for the next little while. You can specify that you would just like to sub at certain schools; please put SJHS as your top priority if you’d like Kelly Services to call about sub jobs here first.

Tuvimos un puñado de subs en el edificio hoy por una variedad de razones. Los estudiantes pueden estar preguntándose acerca de sus maestros, pero quiero confirmar que NO tenemos ningún caso conocido de COVID-19 entre nuestros maestros.
