Amazing Artists at SJHS

Some may not know it, but this year, hidden deep within our school, Springville Junior High, there are many students whose talents go unrecognized. The Journalism staff is going to highlight a few of these gifted students with the highly praised skill of creating art.

These students all have different reasons to draw. One such example is eighth grader Taylor Whitney, who says she like to draw because it allows her to be at peace and to express feelings she wants to show to others. Some simply like to draw because it is fun, like amazing artist Chloe Potter, another eighth grader here at SJHS. Additionally, they have to do many things to improve their art. Brynn Patten, eighth-grade SJHS student and amazing artist, likes to get better at drawing by looking at professional art and trying to imitate it so their own art will get better. Others, such as eighth-grade student and artist Abi Maccabee, take art lessons as well.

One thing that all of these talented girls have in common is that they believe that anyone can draw. “Just put your heart into it. It doesn't matter how good you are!” said Abi Maccabee. But there are a lot of things that young artists need to remember and keep in mind when they start trying to draw. “They don't have to focus on the details,” said Taylor Whitney, “Start simple, think about it and see it in your mind.” It is also important to practice, practice, practice!

All of these students started drawing when they were very young, but that doesn't mean its too late! From what I've seen, I have come to the conclusion that no matter how much experience you have, how much raw talent you possess, or what resources you have available, you can still draw well. If these young girls can do it, then so can you! All of these amazing artists agree, if you try really hard, and you do your best, its possible. So if you keep at it, there is no reason that you can't be great!
