Have you ever played golf before? Well if you haven’t you are missing out. Golf is a fun, slow, calm sport, that includes strategy, math, and many other things. Golf is played by hitting the golf ball into the hole. You want to hit the ball the fewest times before hitting it into the hole. Whoever hits the ball into the hole first wins that hole. In the end  you want the lowest number possible,  golf isn’t like any other sport like football or basketball, where you want the highest points possible. So if you were playing a game and you had 15 points, and your friend had 20 points, you would have won.

This year at SJHS Brodie Beerg coaches the golf team. Every Tuesday through Thursdays for 2 hours they practice at the Hobble Creek golf course. They practice putting, front line range hitting, and many other things. SJHS’s matches are on Mondays, each match is usually about 1 hour long. Either from 3 to 4 or 5 to 6. 1 person from each team plays out of the 7 school teams. Each team has about 10 to 11 players.

Beau Brunson, an 8th grade boy, played on the golf team this year. Beau likes golf because he thinks hitting the ball, and watching where it goes is fun. “It’s fun to watch how far and close the ball gets to the hole.” says Beau. Beau has been playing for 6 years now and has a good feel for the game. He also plays baseball, in this sport you can also hit a ball, so it’s pretty for Beau to hit the ball, since he has good hand eye coordination. Beau wants to play the sport of golf for as long as he can.

Another 8th grade boy, Andrew Austin, also plays on the golf team. Golf for Andrew is a sport  that calms him down. “I like the game because golf isn’t like any other sport, like football, where it’s a fast paced game. Golf is slower and isn’t as tense.” says Andrew.  Andrew has also been playing for 6 years, and plans to play the game of golf all his life. Andrew thinks the game of golf is beneficial, because you get to add up your points and keep track of what you are doing. He says his grades in math have gotten better over the years of him playing golf.

Would you play golf?
