A few weeks ago was red ribbon week, which is a week where we provide drug awareness at SJHS. Student council and the PTSA planned many fun activities and guests to come and talk to students about being good examples and setting goals for their future. They came during lunch came for a reason. The spray painter, Ulione is a student from UVU that came to SJHS to spray paint a humongous board of our mascot, a knight. Molly Hunter said, Ulione came to show us, “If you have a passion and you pursue it then you can do what you want in life.” Safari, another guest who is deaf, world champion martial artist came to show us that if you have a disability you can overcome it, and it will not define you. Gavin Jones, another member of student council said the star wars people came for fun.
Everyone enjoyed red ribbon week. Lilli Killpack, a seventh grader at SJHS said that she enjoyed the dressing up and being part of red ribbon week. Mike Neth, a ninth grader at SJHS, said he liked, “Watching people dress up.” Molly Hunter, said red ribbon week was 10/10 and the best one ever. She said her favorite part was, “learning how to spray paint and see other students do it.” Gavin Jones, said he also liked the spray painter and star wars people.
Student council tries their best each year to not only get people excited and learn more about the harmful effects of drugs, but to also get school spirit and students involved in the activities that they create for them. How do you feel about Red ribbon week?
