On November 14, the 8th graders at SJHS had the opportunity to go on a field trip to the Topaz Museum in Delta and learn about the Japanese Internment Camps that were in operation during WW2.

Many of the eighth graders enjoyed learning about what life was like for the Americans of Japanese ancestry.

“It was really moving to see what they went through.” Chloe Sleight states, as she talks about her experience.

“ My favorite part of the field trip was going inside of the barracks,” Laurissa Blakey explains, “They didn’t have insulation so it got so cold and hot all the time. It was just really sad to see what they had to go through.”

“The most fascinating thing about Topaz, was when we got to actually go into the barracks and see what it was like for a family of 4.” Dallin Hatfield explains.

Something else that they got to see was what the internees did on their free time- Shell art.

“They made these beautiful things will just some shells and nail polish.” Blakey continues.

This was definitely a one a great learning experience for 8th graders and surely to be something they will forever remember.
