Battle of the Lunches

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

Contentions have arisen here at Springville Junior High. Lunch Wars have begun. Lunch Wars is a fun and creative competition that motivates students to pick up after themselves and keep the cafeteria clean. The competition is between first and second lunch. As Mr. Van Ausdal, the principal of SJHS, would put it, Lunch Wars is “a little incentive to help students keep the lunchroom clean.”

Lunch Wars has had positive effects so far. The students have been doing very well. First lunch is in the lead, and second lunch is behind by about 500 points. Lunch Wars will be ending when the semester is over, which is January 10th. Mr. Mikesell, the Dean of Students, said, “It's important to clean up after yourself, and take pride in the school. This is a way to reinforce responsibility and teach students to clean up after themselves.”

Maddie Taylor, a ninth-grade student on student council, said, “Sometimes after I eat lunch, I pick up paper, and it’s not that hard.” The administration hopes that students at SJHS can make a difference, and that they will take advantage of it, because it really isn’t that hard. If everyone at SJHS did their very best, the school would be a bright and beautiful place to learn.
