Boys Slam Dunk During Games

This year, the 2012 ninth grade boys basketball team has been working hard to keep a good season. According to Mr. Kindrick, the assistant coach, they are very dedicated to working as a team. The team has been working really well with each other. In Mr. Kindrick’s opinion, the team’s defense has improved. Offensively they have started to execute some of the things that are needed to be successful. “Everyone works together,” said Stu Killian, a ninth grader on the team.

So far during the season, most of the team members have learned different things about basketball. Stu Killian has learned how to do a turnaround jump shot. According to Scott Averett, a player on the basketball team, has learned that teamwork is really important. Without it, the team can’t function correctly. Each player has a certain part, and if they don’t do their part, then the play doesn’t work.

The first 45 minutes of each of their practices are always the same. They work on different skill development such as defense and defensive positioning, ball handling, passing, and shooting. After that they work on game development things, such as offensive sets, strategies, and scrimmaging.

Scott likes his team because everyone gets along and plays well with each other.  According to Mr. Kindrick, kids play really well when they get a lot of support from their friends so come to the games!
