Grab your pom-poms and megaphones and hold onto your seats cause our SJHS 8th grade cheer team is about to rock your world! They dance, they stunt, and they will blow your socks off with their dances and cheers.

The definition of a cheerleader is a member of a team that performs organized cheering, chanting, and dancing in support of a sports team or an enthusiastic and vocal supporter. That is exactly what our 8th grade cheerleaders do. “They cheer for us and support us even when we are losing.” says Tucker Kelsey, a 8th grader on the football team that they cheer for. Sophie Mendivil, a 8th grader, said, “We support the team.” In its simplest terms, cheerleading is a performance to gain a response from the crowd to cheer on the team. They support us and motivate us, told Cooper Johnston, an 8th grader.

Ashlynn Thomas, an 8th grader, said that her favorite part was cheering and yelling. Brynn Ross, an 8th grader, said that her favorite part was stunting. Stunting ranges from basic pyramids to high flying basket tosses. Whitney Shepherd, a 8th grader, says, “My favorite part is that we get to be a team.” Brenna Carlton, a 8th grader, says that her favorite part is getting to know the girls on the team and cheering and encouraging the boys.

What do you think the most important part of being a cheerleader? If you say, “To cheer.” our 8th grade football team would likely beg to differ! Preston Roberts, a 8th grader, says that the most important thing is that they are happy. Jackson Rapier, a 8th grader, says that the most important thing is that they keep the crowd going. Brenna Carlton said that, “The most important is to be loud so the players can hear you.” Cooper Johnston says that there most important job was to motivate. Tucker Kelsey said that is was to get the fans excited. Because when the crowd is excited then the players are excited.

Do the cheerleaders help the players play better? Cooper Johnston said, “Yes, it pumps us up!” Tucker Kelsey said that it definitely does. Preston Roberts said, “Sometimes. When we are down on ourselves it helps, but sometimes it's just annoying.”

Just to wrap it up, cheerleaders encourage, support and yell their heads off. So that's that folks! If you want to see them in action go and watch one of the 8th grade games!
