The actress Ashley Tisdale once said, “I love Christmas, not just because of the presents, but because of all the decorations and lights and the warmth of the season.”  This Christmas, Springville Junior High celebrated the holidays by cutting paper, sprinkling glitter, measuring wrapping paper, stringing tinsel, and hanging lights to create their own beautiful Christmas doors. “The best part about it is that it brings the Christmas spirit. It’s just cool because it makes the school colorful,” said Sydney Heister, a ninth grader at SJHS. “I think Mrs. Rice’s is the best. It’s like a cave.” Sydney didn’t help with the doors this year, but she says it looks like fun. Emma Page, another ninth-grade student, said, ”I like to see people’s faces and reactions. I helped with Ms. Anderson’s door... it was fun.”

Participation was optional, but teachers and students who decided to enter the contest had a lot of fun. Mario Serrano, a ninth-grade student, said, “You compete against other classes to see which one’s the best... I think ours was the best, the lighting was cool.” Ms. Anderson, a math and English teacher, said, “Basically, I showed them some pictures, and they voted as a class which ones to do. I got the supplies and turned them loose. They've done a fantastic job! I'm very pleased with their work.”

Here are the winners for the contest: Mrs. Gleave, Mrs. Murray, Mrs. K. Rice, and Ms. Neeley all won Honorable Mention; Mr. Cudney won Most Creative; Mrs. Maughan won the award for most Christmas Cheer, and Ms. Anderson's snowmen were the overall winners.

SJHS had a lot of fun decorating doors and is excited for future Christmas Door Decorating contests. “I thought the door decorations were really creative and I’m excited to see what they look like next year, too,” said Allison Clisbee, an eighth grader.
