Class Spotlight: English Honors

Ninth graders at SJHS had a chance to take English honors, an advanced English class this year. In order to take the class, students had to complete a summer reading assignment and turn it in on the first week of school.

“Honors English is for students who can read and write at a high level, but who are also very hardworking and responsible,” said Ms. Dunn, the English honors teacher at SJHS.

English honors challenges the students who choose to participate in the class, and it will help them have a better understanding of how to analyze a text and write at a high level, according to Ms. Dunn. According to Julie Haws, a ninth grade student at SJHS, English honors has a faster pace than a regular English class. “All of the students are more dedicated and responsible,” said Anna Allen, a ninth grade student.

“Students should expect to come to class everyday and work hard. We don’t have much downtime,” said Ms. Dunn.

Students can also expect a great teacher. “She is one of the best I have ever been around. Her knowledge and expertise are unparalleled,” said Mr. Rowley, assistant principal at SJHS. Students can always expect a happy teacher, and Ms. Dunn is really nice, said Julie Haws.
