Creative Writing

Fiction, fantasy, whatever you want! These are just a few of the many genres the Creative Writing class at SJHS gets to participate in while becoming one-of-a-kind authors straight from our school!

But what is creative writing? Ms. Neeley, the Creative Writing teacher, said, “Creative Writing is an elective for students who like to write stories and poetry.” But with all the different types of writing, how do you choose what to write about? Mrs. Neeley said, “We brainstorm different genres as a class and then we vote. Whichever genre gets the most votes, is the genre we write next.” Theres so many things you can do in Creative Writing, with all the different genres, that the possibilities never end!

Students say that creative writing is always really fun. Mrs. Neeley said, “I think the students like the class because it gives them the freedom to write what they want to write about.” Many students also like the fact that they have more freedom than in other classes. Avyrie Fellows, a student in Creative Writing, said, “ In Creative Writing, we get to be silly!” Even though its fun, the students still have to stay on task to not get behind. During class, the students spend most of their time in the computer lab typing their stories. Students have said that one of their favorite things about creative writing is that they have the freedom to use whatever font they want and talk to their friends as long as they stay on task.

All in all, Creative Writing is a fun class as long as you stay on task. You will be able to get good grades while having fun! So if this class sounds fun and exciting, this is the class for you!
