Cross Country Preseason Information 2019

Submitted by tiffanie.miley on

Parents of athletes,

We are excited for your interest in having your athletes join our cross country team!  While we won’t have all of the official dates and information until the start of the school year, this letter will hopefully answer some questions and help you to prepare early if you would like to.

  • We will have an information meeting (most likely the first week of school) with updated information, including the dates for all of the cross country meets.  We will put up flyers around the halls and make announcements about the meeting.

  • In the past, our seasons have been about eight weeks long.  We usually have six meets and they have been on Fridays right after school.

  • The races at the meets in the past have been about 1.5 miles.  At practices, we adapt workouts to the different levels of our athletes (more experienced runners may have different workouts than first-time runners).

  • There are no tryouts, and everyone is welcome to participate.

  • ***Important***: You will need to create an account (if you haven’t already done so for a previous sports at SJHS) on registermyathlete.com.  To do so, go to registermyathlete.com and find our school (our school has the knight symbol).  Do not accidentally sign up for Springville High School, it has to be with the junior high.  It will ask you for information and to electronically sign certain documents uploaded by our district office.

  • ***Important***: You will need a physical checkup from a physician.  To complete this, print off the forms provided on the registermyathlete.com, fill in pages two and three with your athlete, take page four in with you to the checkup and have the physician fill it in, and upload all four pages of the physical on registermyathlete.com.  You need to use the forms provided by registermyathlete. If you use another form (such as a boy scouts physical or one provided by the physician), it may be rejected.

  • The season will start around the second week of school.  In order to participate on the team (or even come to practices), you athlete needs to have registered on registermyathlete.com and have their physical forms filled out.  We suggest getting these done early so that you won’t have to worry about it the first week of school.

  • Other information and requirements will be discussed at the information meeting during the first week of school.  Athletes will be sent home from the meeting with an info paper.

  • If you would like to, you can have your athlete start training now.  For some of you, even a short run once or twice a week with them could be helpful.  This of course is not required.

We hope this is helpful in getting started.  In past years, our athletes have loved being on the team and have made a lot of friends doing so.  At any level, we’ve seen each athlete improve a lot throughout the season. If you have questions not addressed in the letter, feel free to email Coach Hammon at matt.hammon [at] nebo.edu or get your questions answered at our meeting in August.

Thanks,

SJHS Cross Country Coaches
