District Track Meet

SJHS went to districts! On Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16 students from our school represented Springville Jr. High and completed at the Nebo district track meet.

Mr. Kindrick, the throwing coach, said, ”We are amazing at the field events, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump. We also are very strong in the hurdles for both boys and girls.” According to Mr. Kindrick, the team does very well in relays and distance.

“During the season the athletes choose their own events with some nudging by the coaches steering them in the direction of what we think they can be good in. Once we get to districts it's all about who has the best times or distances. There are certain minimums that need to be met but in each event we can take our best six athletes with several others serving as alternates in case of injury or sickness or things like that,” said Mr. Kindrick.

Mrs. Bodily, the distance coach said, “Qualifying for districts depends on the event. For distance events, each team can have unlimited entries, as long as they have run a specific qualifying time. For field events, we can take the top six from our school, as long as they have thrown or jumped the minimum. There are also relay teams that compete in districts, so we put together two  teams per relay of some of our fastest runners so that we can be competitive in the team events.”

Mrs. Bodily also said, “Since sprinting events have to be run in heats, we can only take our top six runners for each event.”

Brennen Rymer, a student at SJHS that attended districts, ran the 100, 200, 400, and did the long jump. Brennen likes track  because it keeps him in shape and he loves to run. Brennen said his favorite part of the track meet was “winning.”

Congratulations to the boys track team who placed first, and the girls team who placed second!
