Eighth Graders Visit Air Force Base

What have the Gifted and Talented students been up to lately? The eighth grade Gifted and Talented (G&T) students took a field trip to the Hill Air Force Base on Friday, February 21. According to Mr. Hatfield, a science teacher who supervises the G&T groups, the purpose of this field trip was to teach the students the science behind flying aircraft. He says that he likes taking the students on field trips “to give them enrichment beyond what they learn in the regular classroom.”

While at the Air Force base, the students did and learned a lot of things. They got to talk to mechanics and pilots of the planes, see flight applications, and even got to spend time on a real flight simulator! The students said that they had lots of fun.

Maren Cooper, a student in the eighth grade G&T group, said that the best part of being in Gifted and Talented is going on field trips. Maren said that her favorite thing they did was look at the airplanes and learn about them. “It was fun,” she said.

Avyrie Fellows is another student in eighth grade G&T. Her favorite part of the field trip was the flight simulations and “running around and touching the big airplanes.” She said she likes being in G&T a lot. “We get to learn new things about government, science, history, and many other things.”

It seems like the eighth graders in Gifted and Talented have had lots of fun on this great learning opportunity!
