Have you ever gone into a different world?

“Some people think reading is boring, but if you get into a book, you will be hooked because it takes you into the world of the book,” Danielle Melendez, a seventh grader said. Daniela is part of the Reading for Enjoyment class at Springville Junior High School.

Ms. Miley, the Reading for Enjoyment teacher, said, “It's so fun to see kids open up about what they're reading and share their opinions with the class.”  This is an elective class where people read for almost the whole period. People take this class if they really love reading, if they want to get better at reading, or if they want to enjoy reading more. Ms. Miley said, “I wanted to create a place when kids who enjoy reading could get together and talk about books with people who share their love of reading.”

During the Reading for Enjoyment class, the students give book talks, which is when they get up in front of the class and share about a book they have read, also they write a short journal entry about what they had read that day or anything else that Ms. Miley decides to have us think about, and of course they read.  Blake Johnson, an eighth grader, said, “I like this class cause I can read the books for my book reports and then I have time at home to get my other homework done.”

Some of the students have taken the class for all three years of junior high, and now they can finish a 500 page book in about 2 weeks. All together it is a fun class, and you will enter all kinds of different worlds with one good book.
