You will always go on an adventure in Mrs. Ottley’s room. Mrs. Ottley is a new English teacher this year at Springville Junior High School. According to Mrs. Ottley, she came to SJHS this year because she lives in Springville, and she loves the faculty, administration and the building. She said, “I think Springville is the best place to live and work.”

Mrs. Ottley’s room is sailing themed. According to Mrs. Ottley, it is sailing themed because they are learning about anchor questions when they are reading. In addition to anchor questions they are also learning about reading skills. She said her room is decorated like this because, “reading takes you on a voyage.”

According to Mrs. Ottley, her favorite thing about SJHS is the teachers and the students. She also mentioned that she loves seeing her sons in the hallway. Before she came to SJHS she was doing her student teaching at Payson High School, the same place that Mr. McGuire was the assistant principal before he came here.

Ms. McBride, an English teacher at SJHS, said that Mrs. Ottley is really nice and cares about the students. According to Ms. McBride, she brings good ideas to the table in the SJHS English department. According to Bennion Messenger, a seventh grade student in her English class, Mrs. Ottley is enthusiastic and likes to reward good behavior. He also said that she has a fun way of teaching things, like watching Disney’s The Lion King so they can learn how to make connections and inferences along with other reading skills.
