Mini Pinatas filled with candy, fun lunchtime activities, dancing in the commons. What is happening at SJHS? We had LIA Week! LIA stands for Latinos in Action. LIA is a student action team that has a main goal, according to LIA member Linnthay Sanchez, to “Help everyone and do lots of service.” This group of awesome students wanted to have an activity-filled week to give the people of SJHS an important message.

Linnthay Sanchez says, “What we hope to accomplish this week is we want to teach the students at SJHS that they can all become leaders.”

Among all the fun activities the LIA got to do that week, a few favorites were musical chairs and dancing during lunch, helping with Parent Teacher Conferences, and participating in fun Quest Time activities in Mr. Beebe’s room. One of the  Quest Time activities to participate in was a drum performance by Diego Campos of the Brazilian band Diego Brazuca. It was a lot of fun!

Lily Austin of LIA said, “We hoped that after this week we could form a stronger bond with our team.” And she was not wrong. After last week, we saw others being kind to each other and forming closer bonds; especially within the LIA team.

As the week neared its end, we saw a huge improvement in the attitude of our school. The new 7th graders were feeling more welcome, friends were being made, and everyone was having fun. LIA week was definitely a success, and we can’t wait for it to happen again next year!
