The New and Improved Quest Time

Springville Junior High School has a 20 minute free period between their third and fourth period known as Quest Time. Quest Time has two different options for classes, enrichment for students with D’s and above, and intervention for students with F’s. It has not always been this way,the rule used to be that only students with C’s and above could attend their choice for an enrichment class.  Now enrichment is available to students with D’s. Mr. Van Ausdal, principal of SJHS, said that the new Quest Time “potentially puts more kids in enrichment.” Enrichment classes are fun for kids and include things such as movie rooms or conversation rooms. At the beginning of December this new rule was introduced to all of of SJHS.

Mrs. Gleave, a math teacher at SJHS, said, “Quest Time in general has been really effective.”  Now it can be even more effective, if students are struggling in a class and have an F, they can go and get more help than ever. Rachel Loredo, an eighth-grade student at SJHS, said that the new Quest Time is “ less stressful.” Lauren Besinger, another eighth grader, said, “Intervention is a time for kids to get help when they need it.”  Going to intervention helps students become more successful and raise their grades in classes they might be struggling in.

According to Mrs. Gleave, students can get still get help even if they have a grade that is anywhere from an A to a D. There is a math lab and study room open every day of the week, and students can always make arrangements with teachers to come in at intervention if needed.  Mr. Van Ausdal, principal at SJHS, said, “I feel that anytime we can get kids that need help that is a good thing.”
