New SJHS Building

Have you ever moved before? Or have you ever thought about moving to a new place? Well a similar change will be happening to Springville Junior High, coming fall of 2014. SJHS will be getting a new school! The SJHS building that is now in use was built in 1957. It will have been in use for at least 57 years by the time we move to the new building.

The location that was picked is east of Canyon Road between Center street and 400 South. To be more specific, it will be built in an empty field above Childs Park. The transportation was probably the biggest reason why it was picked.  Mrs. Bass, an English teacher at SJHS, said, “The location will save the district money in busing costs over an extended period of time.”  According to Tyler Strong, a seventh grader at SJHS, he lives near where the building will be built, so it will be easier getting to school.

The reason why SJHS is getting a new school is because it is old, and has been in use for a long time. According to Mrs. Bass, it is time for a learning atmosphere that meets our needs a little better. Mr. Van Ausdal, the principal of SJHS, said that the building “has served its purpose.” What will happen to the current SJHS building is yet to be determined, but it won’t be knocked down. Kacey Clegg, another seventh grader at SJHS, said, “I am not excited to get a new school, because I like this one!” So whatever the new school will be like, we are sure it will serve our needs as expected.
