Now is the Time to Give Thanks!

Christmas is coming up and everyone seems to be talking about it, but do you know what is coming up before Christmas?  Thanksgiving is!  We celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November and it is a nationally recognized holiday.  Thanksgiving has been celebrated ever since 1893.  It is a time to give thanks, spend time with family and friends, and to eat lots of good food, especially turkey!

Every family has a different tradition on Thanksgiving.  Cathy Poulsen, an eighth grader, says her family does pretty much the same thing every year.  She says they also make some really good sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top.  Kooper Peterson, also an eighth grader, says that on Thanksgiving, he likes to eat Mashed Potatoes.  According to Scout Benson, an eighth grader, one of the traditions she has is Pie Night with her friends.  She also says that like everyone else, she “eats lots of food on Thanksgiving.”

Thanksgiving is important for lots of different reasons.  Kooper says “The most important thing about Thanksgiving is spending time with family.  Scout says that the most important thing about Thanksgiving is, “food.”  Cathy says, “The most important thing is to be grateful for what you have, and spending time with family.”  She also mentions that she is most thankful for her family.  On the other hand, Kooper is most thankful for toilet paper.  Scout says, “I am most thankful for pumpkin pie, friends and family, my bed and piano.”

With the holiday season upon us, don’t forget to be thankful for all the wonderful things you have!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
