For most people drawing means doodling and idle pencil scratchings, but in Ms. Wallace’s drawing class, things are taken to a whole new level. Ms. Wallace, the art teacher, has been teaching at SJHS for two years and loves to draw.

Ms. Wallace said, “We currently are working on skateboard design. There are some cool designs. We have lots of fun projects including xeroxing and sketching out our faces, learning how to draw the figure, and collaborating on a large piece.  Every student receives their own sketchbook. We get to learn about illustrators, and try different drawing mediums. It's a pretty fundamental class, and I think everyone who practices will improve their drawing skills.  Everyone is born with a desire to create, and drawing is just one of the ways. Art classes helps us learn how to make observations, think creatively, solve problems, and collaborate with others. Art is a great way to communicate with the world. It's a skill that everyone should learn.”

According to Brandon Garnica, a ninth grader in the class, drawing is important for expression.
