The SJHS Journalism class 175.79 KB

“The journalism class was created to give students real-life writing opportunities and to inform people about what goes on at Springville Junior High School.  Journalism is a unique class where students have an audience of more than just their teacher and classmates; the audience is all of the students and parents at our school and anyone who visits our school website.  It is a great opportunity for our students to get published at such a young age,” said Ms. Miley, an assistant principal and former journalism teacher. The journalism class has been around for at least 15 years and has been taught by three teachers before Ms. Dunn, the current journalism teacher. Ms. Miley, who was the previous journalism teacher, taught journalism for about five years before Ms. Dunn began to teach it.

The journalism class is a class made to create the school paper and to write about the going ons of the school. There are currently 19 students in journalism, and they love going around the school and getting into classrooms to interview students in order to “get the scoop,” according to Kazdin Lewis, a ninth grader in journalism.

Another student in the class is Alexis Rogers, an eighth grader, said, “I am glad to be here!” She explained, “We need the paper so people can get information about our school.”

The journalism class puts out a new paper about every month and is very careful to edit the articles and make sure that things are polished. Ms. Dunn said, “Journalism was made to publicize the good things about our school and keep people informed.”
