During Red Ribbon Week at SJHS, the students have lots to look forward to. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week each year. Here at Springville Jr High, we are celebrating Red Ribbon Week by participating in dress up days, and going to a kick-off assembly Monday morning. During the assembly police officer Craig Martinez came and talked about drug safety. During the assembly, they also introduced our dress up days for the week and the daily challenges.  Many students favorite dress up day is the crazy sock day, because it was easy to find fun socks to wear. Halle Strong thinks Red Ribbon Week is all about bringing awareness to the terrible side effects of drugs. She mentioned that it helps students know what to do in bad/unwelcome situations where drugs may be present. This years theme to get students participating is “What is your anti-drug?” Amara Waldal thinks this theme is all about “spending time on things you enjoy, and finding things to do that are good for your body.” She also thinks this theme will inspire kids to get out and get active. We are hoping that we can get students to become aware of the dangers of drugs, and all the many “anti-drugs” that everybody can participate in. Halle Strong said, “I hope that Red Ribbon Week gets kids out doing what they love and having a good time with friends.”
