Secret Santa Spectacular!

Christmas is a time for celebration, but what is a teacher to do when they want to have a fun holiday activity for their class? The possibilities are endless, but our history teacher here at Springville Junior High School, Mr. Shields, decided to stick with a beloved classic. I’m talking about the Secret Santa of course! On December 20th, 2012, this activity had the students of Mr. Shield’s second, third, fifth, and sixth period classes excited from when they had to hunt for the perfect gift right down to the surprise when they received their own!

Mr. Shields has been doing the Secret Santa for about three or four years now. According to him, he does it to make school more fun around the holidays, but also to get his students to think of someone else other than themselves. “It is good for us to be unselfish and think of others needs. I am hoping that students will take it seriously and put some thought into giving a good gift,” Mr. Shields said.

It’s been a big hit with the students as well! According to Maggie Anderson, an eighth grader here at SJHS, it’s fun to wonder about who got her name and what she was going to get as a gift. “I love surprise gifts!” she said. A lot of the students participating received a food item or somthing Christmas themed for their gift. “Everyone loves food,” said eighth-grade student Devin Vest. To help the girls in his class, Mr. Shields made the comment, “The best way to a man's heart, is through his stomach!”

When you have a fun Christmas party with food, presents, and you get out of class, it’s hard not to love the Secret Santa!
