Dear SJHS parents and guardians:

We had a great Be An Ally Week this week! Many of our students participated in daily challenges, making new friends and getting to know new people. Students who participated in the challenges or who were caught being an ally to others received tickets and were entered in a daily drawing. We saw participation increase each day and hope that students were able to internalize the idea that being an ally means treating each other in a way that makes everyone feel welcome, safe, and included at school. We love our students and want them all to truly feel that they are part of the Springville Junior High family.

Beginning Monday, September 14, 2020, our cafeteria will serve breakfast and lunch for free to all SJHS students. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to feeding more of our students each day! For the first couple weeks, we are unsure of how many students will be eating school lunch each day. Our lunch crew will prepare and cook hot lunch each day for our students. If there are more students than expected eating school lunch, our cafeteria staff will have sandwiches prepared so that all students who want a lunch can have one. It may take a week or two for our numbers to stabilize well enough to be able to plan accurately for hot lunches. We have such a fantastic food service staff here at Springville Junior High! They worked throughout last spring to serve breakfast and lunch each day, and have continued to provide great food to our students everyday this fall. They love serving our kids, and we appreciate their work every day! For more details from Nebo District about this program, please click here.

  • Parent-Teacher Conference: Our first parent-teacher conference of the year will be held on Thursday, September 24. We will be changing our procedures this year to limit the number of people in the building that evening. Rather than meeting in the gym, teachers will be available in their classrooms. We are asking that each family limit their attendance to one parent and child where possible. We would like to specifically invite parents of students who may be struggling in school. If your child is doing well in all of their classes, we would encourage you to email teachers if you have any questions or concerns. We will also have Zoom appointment times available during the week of September 28. I will send out additional information about our Zoom conferences as they get closer. We are still working through the logistical details at this time.

We are grateful for the efforts of our students and teachers as they have adjusted to the new way of doing things this year. Students are wearing masks and helping to keep their learning spaces clean. Teachers have adjusted their way of teaching to accommodate new protocols and spend time each day preparing online work for students who have been absent. We are grateful for their efforts in bridging the distance between school and home when our kids are unable to attend in person for a few days. We also appreciate families keeping their students at home when they are sick or have been exposed to COVID. Our school has remained very healthy, which has been wonderful! We are so glad to be in person each day.

Have a good weekend,

Estimados padres y tutores de SJHS:

¡Tuvimos una gran semana de Be An Ally!
