Dear SJHS students, parents and guardians:

Next week is “Be An Ally Week” at Springville Junior High. In the words of our student council: “At SJHS, we believe in being an ally! This can mean being a friend to someone new. This can mean standing up for someone. This can be as simple as holding open a door. Basically, being an ally means treating each other in a way that makes everyone feel welcome, safe, and included at school.” Our student council has planned a fun week to help our students understand what it means to be an ally. Please see the attachment for more information. We hope all of our students will participate!

Starting the week of September 7, students will be able to stay after school from 1:55 - 2:30 to receive additional help in their classes. Teachers will invite students to stay after to focus on specific curriculum objectives. Students will receive a paper invitation from their teacher, and parents will receive an email. Different departments will invite students on different days of the week. I’ve attached a copy of the invitation so you can see more details.

Students may also choose to stay after school to receive help or to complete make-up work. Students need to sign up with their teachers if they are interested in staying after for additional help since space will be limited. If we limit the number of students after school, then we can spread them out so that there is no additional exposure that would warrant a quarantine. At this time, we don’t have access to transportation, but that may change in the future. For the time being, parents would need to pick up their child from school if walking home isn’t an option.

Like all other things this school year, this after-school schedule is a new practice. We will review our procedures after a few weeks to see if any tweaks need to be made. If there are any changes, we will send out more information at that time. Here is the calendar for next week:

Monday, 9/7/20: Labor Day -- no school

Thursday, 9/10/20: Girls tennis match

  • Our girls tennis team will have their first match of the season against Mapleton Junior High School. They will play at Maple Mountain High School at 3:30.
  • Even though this is an outdoor event, spectators will still need to maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from individuals not of the same household. Spectators will be expected to wear a mask if it is not possible to stay six feet apart.

Friday, 9/11/20: Cross Country meet

  • Our second cross country meet will be at Salem Junior High. Girls will run first starting at 4:30, followed by the boys.
  • Please maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from individuals not of the same household. Spectators will be expected to wear a mask if it is not possible to stay six feet apart. Please be especially aware of this at the finish line.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Thanks,

Gracias,
