Mr. Shields is one of our history teachers here at Springville Junior High School. Mr. Shields has been teaching for about 27 years, and eight of them have been here at SJHS. He is currently on his ninth year here.

According to Mr. Shields, he is a big camper. Every year his family and his friends go on a big camping/motorcycle trip, each time to a new place. He also goes on a summer trip with his wife. He also loves traveling, cruises, riding dirt motorcycles, and reading. Mr. Shields has seven children, four sons and three daughters. He had his four sons with his first wife who died 20 years ago. His first and third sons are married but do not have any children yet. He remarried and has three step-daughters with his second wife. His daughters are all married and all have children, nine in total. His wife is a surgical nurse.

Mr. Shields wants to make a difference in the life of a teenager. He said, “Also I guess I like to get up in front of a crowd of teenagers and act like a clown.” Mr. Shields loves teaching US History and loves the students here.

Katelyn Hollister, an eighth grader, said, “You should be excited; his class is really awesome. I like history, and he does it justice.” He is happy, smart, fun, and an all around good person and teacher, according to Jamie Haws, an eighth grader. Mr. Shields is professional, but he makes the class enjoyable to be in.

Isobel Alvord, an eighth grader, said, “If you have a Spanish last name he will say it over and over again. It always makes them and me smile.” Mr. Shields is one of those teachers that can make your day turn from terrible to the best day ever!

The teachers and staff at SJHS really love Mr. Shields. Mr. McGuire, the principal said, “We are lucky to have Mr. Shields in the school. His experience and talents are a great asset to the students.” He is energetic and really knows his stuff.

He seems to love what he is doing, and we are very lucky to have such a great history teacher! Thank you Mr. Shields!
