“I want to be a lawyer when I grow up,” said Sarah Clark, a ninth grader on the SJHS mock trial team.  The mock trial team meets as a 4H club after school.  The mock trial team has up to about ten people. These students compete with other schools in the state. The won their first competition, and recently they sadly lost their second competition by seven points. But that won’t keep them from practicing and winning another time, said Sarah Clark.

Mr. David Hansen  and Ms. Kiera Beddes are the teachers who run the mock trial and who train the mock trial students. According to the mock trial team, they are amazing teachers who are willing to fit you into the mock trial team next year.

The mock trial team will have traveled to compete with other schools in the state. So far they have done very well. The mock trial has a long way to go before the end of the year, but because of their recent loss, they will not know if they will proceed in competing or not according to Sarah Clark. We wish them the best for the rest of the year!  Sarah said, “Everyone in the team is great, we have amazing talent. We have done the cyber bully case and the civil negligence case.” The team has learned so much about how to be a future lawyers and how to argue and win in cases.  They are a great club and we wish them the best in the future!
