Students Create their Own Websites

Mrs. Josie Hales teaches the Computers in Business class, which is a place where students learn how to manage a business using computers. As part of the class, students are creating their own websites.

The students in Computers in Business have been making and managing their own fictional amusement parks. They get to decide what logo, slogan, name, and everything else they want to include about their park. As part of the assignment, students get to make a website advertizing their amusement park. The students began making the websites November 15th.

The websites contain “Any and all information that the students want to include about their amusement park. They have to have at least five pages, but most of them have a contact page, rides page, calendar and hours page, etc.” said Mrs. Hales.

According to Mrs. Hales, making websites teaches students not only how actually how to make websites, but it also teaches them about the design of websites and some advertising techniques that help catch the consumer’s eye. “It is important that these students learn how to make a website, because websites are one of the best ways to advertise a business and get information out about your business to the consumer,” Mrs. Hales said.

Students enjoy making websites. Rachel Standley, an eighth grader at SJHS, enjoys it because it's an “Opportunity to express yourself.”  Kaylee Richmond, also an eighth grader, likes making websites because she hadn’t known how to make them and now she does.
