Super Students Get Awarded at SJHS

Each month the Springville Junior High School faculty and staff selects six students, a boy and a girl from each grade, to be the Super Knights for that month. In February, Sam Graves and Sarah Clark were named the ninth-grade Super Knights, Wyatt LeFevre and Sarah Emmett were named the eighth-grade Super Knights, and Salvador Juarez and Alisa Boyer were named the seventh-grade Super Knights.

Mr. Trent Mikesell, assistant principal at SJHS, said, “Super Knights are students nominated and elected by teachers. They must be responsible citizens, respectful learners and effective communicators. It’s a goal every student should be trying to reach. We decided to do the Super Knights to recognize students who are good examples, and to show everyone what they should aspire to.”

The Super Knights Assembly was on February 10, 2012. Springville Junior High School’s Fiddle Band performed as well as the boys choir, the Journeymen. The Fiddle Band played three songs, “Soldiers Joy,” “Cripple Creek,” and “Old Joe Clark.” There are 15 students in the Fiddle Band at SJHS, all eighth and ninth graders. The Journeymen sang “Surfin’ USA”; the Journeymen are all eighth graders.

For the students to become Super Knights, the principal and his advisers poll all the teachers and ask them to nominate the students. The teachers as well as staff are able to nominate. According to Mr. Mikesell, everyone is always on the lookout for students who go above and beyond the normal.  Sarah Emmett said, “My advice for the students is work hard, be nice to the students and teachers, and raise your hand to answer questions.”
