On Monday, October 8th, Red Ribbon Week began at Springville Junior High School. The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to help encourage students to avoid drugs and violence. Students dressed up each day of Red Ribbon Week. The dress-up days went along with the purpose of the week.  Monday was Superhero Day. (Be a Hero, save your friends from drugs and violence!) Tuesday was Retro Day. (It’s not groovy to do drugs!) Wednesday was Unit to Fight against drugs and violence. (Wear red--school spirit day) According to Gray Burton and Kennedy Clement, service learning students, they picked out the catchy phrases as a class.

Each day during second period, the service learning students would go around to classes and take pictures of people who are dressed up and give a piece of candy to each of them.  According to Braxton Karren, a seventh grader, he like having red wrist bands during red ribbon week.

Kennedy Clemmet said, “I loved Red Ribbon Week because it was fun to dress up.” Gray Burton enjoyed it because it was fun to see everybody dress up. Kennedy Clement, Maddy Droubay, and Braxton Karren all agreed that superhero day was there favorite day. Kennedy said, “Superhero day was super fun.” Braxton dressed up for that day by putting an S on his back so he could be Superman so he could get “super candy.”  Maddy Droubay liked superhero day because it was fun to see what other people thought that were superhero’s. Gray Burton’s favorite day to dress up was not superhero day, it was Spirit day because lots of people wore red that day.
