We Are the Knights of Springville

This year, at Springville Junior High, everyone is asking the same question; what does it mean to be a Knight? Mrs. Porter, a history teacher, said, “I think being a Knight is standing up for what’s right, and those you care about, even if no one else does.”

“We are all working towards the same goal, to become Knights,” said Bethany Stewart, an eighth grader. At SJHS, our main goal is to be effective communicators, responsible citizens, and successful learners. According to Mike Oman, an eighth grader, to be a Knight is to be able to accomplish our goals and follow the school statement.

Ms. McBride, an eighth grade English teacher, said, “Our statement contributes to our school spirit, and is a great thing for us to work towards together.”

“In medieval times,” Ms. Porter said, “being a knight was a great honor, and knights were the ones that took it upon themselves to always stand up for others, and to be selfless.” She continued by saying, “I love that we are the Knights, and hopefully each student really understands how they can help others.”

As Knights, it is our duty to look out for our fellow peers, and to be an ally. According to Mr. Rowley, the assistant principal of SJHS, as Knights we are all representing our school.

Jenessa Crystal, an eighth grader, said, “Last year, one of the first things I learned at our school was our statement. The SJHS statement says that everyone should try to be the best person they can be, no matter what the circumstances are.”

Ms. Porter said, “I think the students are proud to be Knights, and they probably do not even realize that they do so many things each day that fit what a knight would do.”

Mike Oman said, “Knights are the ones who defended the castle. As students of Springville Junior, we need to defend our ‘castle’ and our classmates, as we all become Knights.”
