Animal Science Class

The Springville Junior High students were privileged with a lot of new elective classes this year. The animal science class was one of these. Animal science is seventh period. There is something unique about this class. It has nine class pets! They have two guinea pigs, Uggs and Buddy, two hamsters, Cinnamon and Hulk, and a betta fish, named Schmitty.

“I love the animal science class!  I love all topics in agriculture but animals are my favorite.  I grew up raising many different farm animals and learned so much from those experiences.  Our society uses animals for many different things: food, clothing, companionship, etc.  It is important for students to understand how they benefit from the use of animals and how to properly care for them,” said Mrs. Thomas, the animal science teacher.

Taren Stuart, a student in the small animal science class, said that his favorite part about the class is the animals, and his favorite animal is the guinea pigs.

“My favorite part is the assignments; they aren’t like math and science assignments. These are fun, craft assignments! And they are about animals! And I love the guinea pigs,” said Camryn Terry, another student in the animal science class.

“My favorite part is taking care of the animals; it teaches responsibility! And my favorite animal is hamsters. I totally recommend this class to the seventh graders,” said Brynn Dinkel, another student in the class.

The Animal Science class went on a field trip to the Leonardo Museum in Salt Lake. They went to an exhibit about animals whose insides were preserved. That was just one of the things that the animal science class does that is super fun. Hopefully people will take this class and enjoy it!
