Find out what’s cooking up in the kitchen today! Here at Springville Junior High we have an incredible staff in our cafetorium. The ladies put in a lot of hard work just for us to eat. Getting the lunch room ready, the food cooked and serving the food doesn’t just take an hour or two; it takes all day and when they’re done they already have to start on tomorrow’s lunch and breakfast.

Ms.Messick is one of the ladies who collects the money. She also makes sure you have money in your account when you type in your ID number. Ms. Chappel is the manager which comes with a lot of responsibilities such as ordering all of the food and making sure there is enough of what they need. Ms. Jexs, Ms. Wiser and Ms. Gomez are some of the few women who prepare the food.

The ladies all get along really well and have a great time. It’s important for them to love their job and they do. Ms. Messick said her favorite thing about her job is “working with the ladies.” They have a lot of laughs and fun times. Ms. Chappel’s favorite part about her job is that she “works with a bunch of fun ladies.” She also enjoys the fact that she gets weekends, summer break, fall break, winter break and vacations off. With the time she gets off from work she spends it with her grandkids, kids and family. Ms. Jexs, Ms. Wiser and Ms. Gomez all agree that the kids are a great part of their job.

Although they have a great work environment there are some hard parts in their job. Manager Chappel said “trying to guess what student is going to want which item we serve.” is a tough part. Ms. Messick mentioned that the hardest part for her is cleaning up, such as mopping floors and cleaning the dishes. The three ladies we spoke about earlier; Ms. Jexs, Ms. Wiser and Ms. Gomez, have a difficult time trying to estimate how much of what food item to make because who knows what the students want to eat that day. The three of them vocalized that being on their feet all day gets tiring.

Ms. Chappel’s favorite food to cook at school is the pepperoni rippers. Orange chicken is a favorable food to cook, for Ms. Messick. As for Ms. Jexs, Ms. Wiser and Ms. Gomez an easy, quick and best-loved food by many students is pizza.

With all that goes on in their day at work it’s a fast paced, hectic, crazy, chaotic, busy day with a lot of “go go go” according to Ms. Chappel. Now we understand how hard it is to serve an entire school.

The lunch ladies at Springville Jr High put a lot of work into their job. They also have a lot of laughs and do their job with love. Even though it is a busy job with some occasional hard responsibilities, they all really do love and enjoy their job.
