Dear SJHS parents and guardians:
We are in the home stretch of the school year—only four weeks remain until summer break. Our 7th and 8th grade students completed the state end-level-assessments in their English classes this week, and all of our students will participate in additional end-of-level testing next week. Here are the events for the week:
- Monday and Tuesday, May 3 and 4: Utah Aspire Plus state assessment for 9th graders. The Utah Aspire Plus is a timed test, and 9th graders will complete the test in four sessions (one session for each subtest) over two school days. One session will be before lunch, and the second session will be after lunch. Students will be assigned to classrooms alphabetically by their last names. Room assignments will be posted on the office windows. Administering the test according to this schedule more closely matches how the ACT is administered once students are in high school. The assessments will be administered at the following times:
- Reading assessment -- 8:45am - 10:15am on Monday, May 3
- Science assessment -- 12:20pm - 1:55pm on Monday, May 3
- Math assessment -- 8:45am - 10:15am on Tuesday, May 4
- English assessment -- 12:20pm - 1:55pm on Tuesday, May 4
- Tuesday, May 4: Tennis at Maple Mountain High School at 3:30
- Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6: Science RISE assessment for 7th and 8th graders in their science classes
- Friday, May 7: Track meet at Maple Mountain High School at 2:00

- With the weather warming up we just wanted to send a short excerpt from the Nebo District dress code: “Clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair. Clothing must be modest. Modesty includes covering shoulders, midriff, back, underwear, and cleavage. Inappropriately short, tight, or revealing clothing is prohibited. Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be at least mid-thigh length when the student is sitting.” For more information about the dress code, please see https://www.nebo.edu/pubpolicy/J/JDG.pdf.
- Rather than waiting until this summer for online registration for the 2021-22 school year, parents can complete the annual online registration process now. Please visit http://sjhs.nebo.edu/registration to review the information for next year. It should only take a few minutes to complete.
- If there are any 9th grade students who did not pass a core class required for graduation and need to complete credit recovery over the summer, information can be found at https://www.sjhscounseling.com/summer-school.html.
- From our PTA: SJHS PTA needs a few more friends. We try to do a variety of things throughout the year to help make the school better for both students and faculty. If you have very little time, we have several small, one-time-only jobs available—if you have more time, we have bigger ones too. Estamos en la recta final del año escolar—solo quedan cuatro semanas para las vacaciones de verano. Nuestros estudiantes de séptimo y octavo grado completaron las evaluaciones estatales de nivel final en sus clases de inglés esta semana, y todos nuestros estudiantes participarán en pruebas adicionales de fin de nivel la próxima semana. Estos son los eventos de la semana:
- Lunes y martes, 3 y 4 de mayo: Utah Aspire Plus Evaluación estatal para estudiantes de noveno grado. - Con el clima subiendo, solo queríamos enviar un breve extracto del código de vestimenta del distrito de Nebo: “La ropa debe estar ordenada, limpia y en buen estado. La ropa debe ser modesta.
