If you found a magic lamp in the cave of wonder, rubbed it, and a genie came out and gave you 3 wishes, what would you do with them?

Edie Wilde

Submitted by tara.pina on

Edie Wilde is an 8th grader here at SJHS. She loves art and food and loves to socialize. She likes most things about school this year but one thing that she doesn’t like is how most of our assignments have been online this year. She would also love it if we didn’t have to go to school every day, She wishes that we could “go back to normal next year and not have Corona going around anymore”. Edie loves to socialize with new people so if you’re looking to find a new friend Edie would be a great person to get to know!

Lights, Camera, Action: Thomas Gabbitas

Submitted by tara.pina on

“I was born… and I wanted to act.” That is why Thomas joined the play. He was Cat and the Hat for Seussical the Musical.

“My very favorite part of being in the show was playing the saxophone.” When we asked him what the worst part of the play was he explained that one of the days he had a cold and so it was harder to perform and play the saxophone. Thomas says, “I would definitely be in another play, like a musical...As long as it wasn’t an opera.” Sadly he isn’t taking drama class this year, but he is in marching band for the high school. He says that the best part is making new friends. Something else Thomas enjoys is cross country.

Mrs. Bird: Teacher of the Year!

Submitted by tara.pina on

Mrs. Bird, one of our amazing math teachers here at SJHS has won teacher of the year! We think that she really deserves this title.

Mrs. Bird has been teaching for 14 years and her favorite part is the student and the people she gets to meet. Mrs. Bird went to college at UVU and studied there before becoming a teacher. She became a teacher so that she could “help students know they are awesome and be another positive adult in their life.”

Mrs. Bird is a great teacher and really deserves this award that she is getting. If you have the time, you should definitely go say congrats!

To Be a Drum

Submitted by tara.pina on

Students in Ms. Denis's class read a book about drums, titled "To Be a Drum" by Evelyn Coleman. The book describes the history of the people of Africa and how when they were enslaved they were also were robbed of their drums.  For the people to still feel a connection with the earth and each other through drumming, they used their feet, hands, voices, hearts, and also tried to listen to the rhythms of Mother Earth to help them through difficult times. Ms. Denis invited her friend, Mike Mylroie, who holds drum circles and ceremonies, to share a little bit about the purpose of drums from cultures around the world and to drum together.

Nebo is Partnering with Tabitha’s Way

Submitted by tara.pina on
Nebo is partnering with Tabitha’s Way for a new event called Read & Feed.

The purpose of this event is to encourage children to continue to read during the summer and to educate families facing food insecurity regarding food resources available to them and their children while they are not attending school. Our goal is to gather 10,000 gently used books that children can take home with them and keep to read during the summer.

During the month of April, we are encouraging families to donate gently used books that they no longer need and drop them off at the Tabitha’s Donation Bins at the following schools:
