Dear SJHS parents and guardians:

Early yearbook handout will happen during 6th period on Monday, May 22. To receive their yearbook during early yearbook handout, students need to have purchased a yearbook, turned in any textbooks, library books, or other school-owned items (instruments, choir apparel, etc.), and have no outstanding school fees. A list will be posted on Wednesday, May 17 for students to check and ensure that they will be able to receive a yearbook during early yearbook handout (if they have purchased one).

Math Awards!

Eleven students from Springville Junior High School (including 6th grader Luke Pratt from Spring Canyon Middle School) were formally recognized at BYU Tuesday, May 2 by the  BYU Math Department for exceptional performance on the AMC 8 test, a national math competition held earlier this year. Pictured left to right are Neil Payne, Clara Allen, Emily Birk, Luke Pratt, Payton Pratt, Preston Lefler, and George Bassett. Not pictured, but also recognized by BYU were Dean Blakey, Bowen Fletcher, and Cameron Judd. We are really proud of our exceptional math students!

  • Our eighth graders will take the state English, writing, and math RISE test this week in their English and math classes.

District Poetry Slam

Last week, SJHS English department hosted a poetry slam. The winners from our school level competition moved on to the district event last night. Dowawisnima Groves, Thomas Wilson, and Alice Heppler did an amazing job at the District Poetry Slam. They all performed heartfelt, moving poems and SJHS is so proud of them!

1st Annual SJHS Poetry Contest

This year the library and English department hosted a poetry contest for SJHS students. After learning about poetry in class, students were invited to submit their best poems. We were overwhelmed by the number of amazing poems our students wrote. A collection of poems will be published in a SJHS Poetry Anthology. The following students are this year's winners:

1st Place: Marcela Lopez for her poem, Papa

2nd Place: Molly Saybolt for her poem, Hourglass

3rd Place: Stephanie Whetman and Brinna Rogers tied for 3rd place for their respective poems, Broken Hearted and I, of the Storm

Be an Ally Recipients (4/28)

This week's "Be an Ally" recipients are:

Brayden Bascom was nominated for noticing that a teacher was carrying many things and would need help. He volunteered to carry things down the hall for me and waited while I got the door open and everything in the room.  Thanks for being an ally, Brayden. 

Diego Reyes was nominated for working hard and always being a team player in keeping our classroom clean. Thank you for being so willing to put chromebooks away! Thanks for being a responsible , Diego. 

Clint Keen was nominated for making amazing progress on a diagnostic this week.  Thanks for being a successful learner, Clint.
