Dear SJHS parents and guardians:
Our food and hygiene drive will continue into next week! We are looking for protein items, powdered milk, things that don’t require anything extra (microwaveable items), diapers, soap, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. Thank you to our PTA for helping to facilitate our donation drive! Other upcoming events:

- Catch Up Day — Teachers will be available after school until 4:00 to help students get caught up in their classes. The term ends just a couple weeks after the catch up day!
As parents of students at Springville Junior High School, we’d like to ask your help with reminding our students of a couple district policies and school expectations. We talk about these topics with students, but we thought a reminder from home may help as well. We had a couple fights among our student body this week. More than 99.4% of our students were not involved in this week’s incidents, and 98.2% of our students have never been involved in these types of situations at school, but many students hear about these situations through the grapevine and may feel concerned about them. We do a lot of proactive things at school to help establish an environment where students can come to school each day to learn and grow. We’ve had Quest Time lessons and discussions throughout the year on topics such as citizenship and civility, effective communication, decision making, and choices and consequences. We regularly recognize students who are going out of their way to be kind and take care of each other. Our teachers expect and reinforce positive behavior here at school. But every once in a while, some students may make poor choices.
Nebo District Policy JDA, Safe School Environment, states that a student may be subject to disciplinary action when he/she represents a threat to the health and/or safety of other students and/or employees by doing things such as causing, attempting, or threatening to cause personal harm by participating in actions such a battery or fighting, intimidation, and verbal abuse (section 3.1). Policy JD, Student Conduct and Discipline, states that students may be subject to disciplinary action if they are “encouraging, being an accomplice to, or promoting any of the prohibited conduct listed above [i.e., fighting], including taking or sharing videos, pictures, or other recordings of real or apparent violations of this policy with the effect of belittling others, celebrating the conduct, or interfering with the District’s efforts to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment” (section 4.2.21).
We want our students and their families to know that we take these situations very seriously and act in alignment with Nebo School District policies. If your child becomes aware of a conflict happening at school, please encourage them to talk to a teacher, administrator, or any other adult at school, or submit a Safe Utah Tip so that we can take care of the situation before it escalates. The adults in the building work everyday to create a safe and welcoming environment for our students to learn in, and we want the best for our students every single day.

Como padres de estudiantes de Springville Junior High School, nos gustaría pedirles ayuda para recordarles a nuestros estudiantes un par de políticas del distrito y expectativas escolares. Hablamos sobre estos temas con los estudiantes, pero pensamos que un recordatorio desde casa también podría ayudar. Tuvimos un par de peleas entre nuestro cuerpo estudiantil esta semana. Más del 99,4% de nuestros estudiantes no estuvieron involucrados en los incidentes de esta semana, y el 98,2% de nuestros estudiantes nunca han estado involucrados en este tipo de situaciones en la escuela, pero muchos estudiantes se enteran de estas situaciones a través de rumores y pueden sentirse preocupados por ellas. Hacemos muchas cosas proactivas en la escuela para ayudar a establecer un ambiente donde los estudiantes puedan venir a la escuela todos los días para aprender y crecer. Hemos tenido lecciones y debates de Quest Time durante todo el año sobre temas como ciudadanía y civismo, comunicación efectiva, toma de decisiones y opciones y consecuencias. Regularmente reconocemos a los estudiantes que se esfuerzan por ser amables y cuidarse unos a otros. Nuestros maestros esperan y refuerzan el comportamiento positivo aquí en la escuela. Pero de vez en cuando, algunos estudiantes pueden tomar malas decisiones.
La Política JDA del Distrito de Nebo, Ambiente Escolar Seguro, establece que un estudiante puede estar sujeto a medidas disciplinarias cuando representa una amenaza a la salud y/o o la seguridad de otros estudiantes y/o empleados al hacer cosas como causar, intentar o amenazar con causar daño personal al participar en acciones como agresión o pelea, intimidación y abuso verbal (sección 3.1). La Política JD, Conducta y Disciplina Estudiantil, establece que los estudiantes pueden estar sujetos a medidas disciplinarias si “alientan, son cómplices o promueven cualquier de la conducta prohibida enumerada anteriormente [es decir, pelear], incluyendo tomar o compartir videos, fotografías u otras grabaciones de violaciones reales o aparentes de esta política con el efecto de menospreciar a otros, celebrar la conducta o interferir con los esfuerzos del Distrito para mantener un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y ordenado” (sección 4.2.21).
Queremos que nuestros estudiantes y sus familias sepan que tomamos estas situaciones muy en serio y actuamos de acuerdo con las políticas del Distrito Escolar de Nebo. Si su hijo se da cuenta de que ocurre un conflicto en la escuela, anímelo a hablar con un maestro, administrador o cualquier otro adulto en la escuela, o enviar un Consejo sobre Utah Seguro para que podamos ocuparnos de la situación antes de que empeore. Los adultos en el edificio trabajan todos los días para crear un ambiente seguro y acogedor para que nuestros estudiantes aprendan, y queremos lo mejor para nuestros estudiantes todos los días.
