Dear SJHS parents and guardians:

We hope you’ve had a good week! It’s been a great week at Springville Junior High. Our student council organized and carried out our annual Be an Ally Week this week; students were able to participate in dress up days and complete challenges that encouraged them to get to know people and make new friends. Our original “Be An Ally” campaign was introduced to SJHS by our counseling department about a decade ago when research revealed how effective one single student could be in stopping bullying behavior by stepping out of a bystander role and into an ally role, and standing up for someone who was being treated poorly. Monday’s homeroom lesson introduced students to what it means to be an ally. For the last few years teachers have been able to recognize students who are going out of their way to be kind to others throughout the school day. We are starting up our weekly Be an Ally drawings again where students who get a Be an Ally card from any of their teachers are entered in a weekly drawing for a Be an Ally t-shirt (designed by a student) and other prizes.

We’ve also been trying to help our students get and stay organized by consistently using their school planners. All students have received a planner that they should be using throughout their classes. Students are learning to keep track of assignments, due dates, tests, homework, etc. Our teachers introduced their planners in a homeroom lesson last week. We’re hoping that the planners will help students keep track of all the different things they have going on.

When you need to check your student out early from school, please come into the attendance office. For safety reasons, we have a closed campus and need parents or guardians to come in so we can verify that we are sending our students with the appropriate adults. If you are unable to check out your student from school, you may authorize one of your emergency contacts to pick up your child by calling the attendance office. There is no need to call ahead—we can take care of you quickly as soon as you get to SJHS.

We replaced several class sets of Chromebooks this summer. If you are interested in purchasing a used Chromebook for $20, please visit our finance office. We have a limited supply of Chromebooks for sale, so each family will only be able to purchase one Chromebook. (The Chromebooks have been factory reset and do not contain any filtering devices or software of any kind. The Chromebooks are being sold in their “AS IS” condition. The school is not responsible for any subsequent loss, damage, or inoperability of the Chromebook.)

Upcoming events:

  • Monday, September 6: No school — Labor Day
  • Tuesday, September 7: Girls tennis at Springville High School vs. Salem Junior High
  • Thursday, September 9: Girls tennis at Spanish Fork Junior High
  • Friday, September 10: Cross Country at Salem Junior High
  • Monday, September 20: Staff Development Day — Students will not attend school.
  • Thursday, September 23: Parent-Teacher Conference from 3:30 - 7:00

Have a great long weekend!

Take care,
