Dear Springville Junior High families:
The first day of school is in just a few days! Our teachers have been back at work since last week and are looking forward to meeting their new students on Wednesday. I will send out a school newsletter once a week with calendar items and other important announcements. Reading the newsletter each week is the best way for you to stay in the loop about everything going on at SJHS. This first newsletter of the year contains several important items that you and your students need to be aware of as we start the school year. You can also find a lot of helpful information in our school handbook.
Open House: All students and their parents are invited to our Open House on Monday, August 12. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 1:30-4:00pm. Counselors and administrators will be holding a short “Junior High 101” presentation at 2:00pm in the cafetorium to provide 8th graders and new students with helpful SJHS information.
Picture Day: This year’s picture day is next Tuesday, August 20. Picture order forms will be sent home with students on the first day of school. Parents may also prepay for school pictures online (mylifetouch.com) with the Picture Day ID EVTQVPXJ2. Picture retakes will be on Friday, September 27. Hats and sunglasses should not be worn in school pictures.
Lockers: Each student has been assigned a locker. The locker number and combination are available in the student Infinite Campus app. If your child has any difficulties opening their locker, please have them take a look at the Locker Helps page on our school website. There is a short video that should help them out.
Electric bikes and scooters: Just this summer, we received word from the State Fire Marshall that electric bikes and scooters cannot be stored in school buildings. Students who ride electric bikes and scooters will need to park them in our bike storage area just south of the school building. The fence is locked during the school day.
Hall Passes: We are excited to announce that we will be using SmartPass, a digital hall pass system, this year. SmartPass will replace traditional paper passes, giving us a better way to monitor student movement throughout the school day. This will improve safety, reduce classroom disruptions, and ensure that students are always accounted for. We believe that SmartPass will make a positive difference at SJHS this year. All of our students will learn how to use SmartPass during the first week of school.
Utah Parent Center: I’ve attached contact information for Heidi Whittaker, a Parent Consultant with the Utah Parent Center. Heidi is contracted with Nebo School District to provide free assistance and resources to parents who have children with special needs or who think their child may have special needs. Please see the flier for more information.
We hope to see you at this afternoon’s Open House! Students can walk around, find their classes, meet their teachers, and practice opening their lockers. First period will start at 7:55am on Wednesday, August 14.

Los padres también pueden pagar por adelantado las fotografías escolares en línea (mylifetouch.com) con la identificación del día de la foto EVTQVPXJ2. La repetición de fotografías será el viernes 27 de septiembre. No se deben usar sombreros ni gafas de sol en las fotografías escolares.
Taquillas: A cada estudiante se le ha asignado un casillero. El número de casillero y la combinación están disponibles en la aplicación para estudiantes Infinite Campus. Si su hijo tiene alguna dificultad para abrir su casillero, pídale que mire el Ayudas para el casillero página en el sitio web de nuestra escuela. Hay un vídeo corto que debería ayudarles.
Bicicletas y patinetes eléctricos: Este mismo verano, recibimos noticias del jefe de bomberos del estado de que las bicicletas y scooters eléctricos no se pueden almacenar en los edificios escolares. Los estudiantes que andan en bicicletas y scooters eléctricos deberán estacionarlos en nuestra área de almacenamiento de bicicletas justo al sur del edificio de la escuela. La cerca está cerrada durante el día escolar.
Pases de salón: Nos complace anunciar que este año utilizaremos SmartPass, un sistema de pase de pasillo digital. SmartPass reemplazará los pases tradicionales en papel, brindándonos una mejor manera de monitorear el movimiento de los estudiantes durante el día escolar. Esto mejorará la seguridad, reducirá las interrupciones en el aula y garantizará que siempre se tenga en cuenta a los estudiantes. Creemos que SmartPass marcará una diferencia positiva en SJHS este año. Todos nuestros estudiantes aprenderán a usar SmartPass durante la primera semana de clases.
