Crystal Apple Award Recipient: Ms. Pina

Congratulations to Ms. Piña, our Crystal Apple Award Recipient for 2024. This is an award given by peer nomination for exemplary performance. Here are just a few of the things Ms. Piña's colleagues have to say about her:

Tara embodies the concept of a life-long learner. She is continually striving to better her craft. From re-designing assignments to make them more engaging, finding the best books, doing research to make her lessons more complete, Tara goes above and beyond. She is a fierce advocate for teachers and students alike. She pushes the status quo to help create real change so everyone at school can thrive. She is equally skilled at the art AND science of teaching. Tara puts her heart, soul, and humor into everything she does, and it is a huge part of the reason she is adored at Springville Junior High.

Tara exemplifies what it means to be a teacher who goes above and beyond. She brings creativity and innovation to the classroom, making literature come alive for her 9th graders. Tara’s dedication to her students is nothing short of inspiring. She has an incredible ability to connect with every learner, whether it’s a freshman navigating the rigor of Honors for the first time, a student in inclusion who needs extra support, an ML student adjusting to a new language and culture, or students tasked with the monumental job of creating the yearbook. She creates a classroom environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. Beyond that, she’s always the first to lend a hand to colleagues, whether it’s brainstorming lesson ideas, making sub plans for teachers in a bind, covering classes first period, serving on various committees, or helping with technology needs.

Her patience and perseverance with ML students show her deep commitment to equity in education. She works tirelessly to ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed, adapting her lessons to meet their individual needs and abilities. She is always willing to take on new challenges without hesitation and graciously leads professional development sessions to share her passion with others. Tara’s impact extends far beyond her own classroom—she’s a cornerstone of our school community. Congratulations, Tara! Your hard work is valued and appreciated.

Tara has a passion for making the world a better place.  She is innovative, creative, progressive, and independent.  As a natural leader, Tara enjoys helping others reach goals and complete tasks.  She advocates for her students, especially those who may feel like they have a diminished voice. Her idealism for a better future, I believe, helps her to be a good communicator and problem solver. Tara is a great team member in all the capacities that I work with her because she cares so much about her fellow teachers and students.  She is very deserving of this award.

Congratulations, Tara!
