Thomas Hardy said, “The perfect woman is a hardworking woman; not an idler; not a fine lady; but one that uses her hands and her head and her heart for the good of others.” This can relate to any hard working woman or girl, but I am going to shine on one of our own independent, fun, hardworking, student council representatives,Francesca Campbell!

Francesca is 9 grader here at Springville Junior High, and definitely one of the hard-working students here. She is a part of many different clubs. Some of them include Hope Squad, National Junior Honor Society(NJHS), the yearbook team, and Student Council. She said she joined these clubs because she likes to help and be involved with our school community.

She is also hard working in another way. Francesca is also on the Springville High School sophomore volleyball team. She plays as the Libero, and loves that she is always in the middle of the game. She started out actually not really liking volleyball. She realized that if she worked hard and got better at it, she could enjoy it. So four and a half years later, she loves it. This year is a little different for sports because of the super popular COVID-19. They have to wear masks on the sidelines at the games, she has to have her temperature checked at practice and the coaches have to wear masks, and if one person gets tested positive on the team, the whole team goes into quarantine.

Along with these sport restrictions, COVID threw off other parts of Francesca’s life too. She said that her family had planned on going to Montana and Canada this past summer, but due to the Coronavirus, they had to postpone their trips till next summer. She did say that they will still go on smaller trips, like to Colorado before then.

Besides traveling, she likes to play baseball with her family. She says that she usually plays 1st base or pitcher. Francesca will also sometimes lift weights for fun. Other than playing sports, Francesca likes to sleep, eat (especially ice cream), and she loves to shoe shop. Her favorite brand is Nike because, “They come in many different styles and colors. I will find something I have never seen before. They all are unique, and are for everyone.” She also is a big social media fan. Her favorite apps are Tik Tok because she likes the variety of videos you can find, and Snapchat because, “That’s how I keep in touch with friends from old schools.”

I asked Francesca what advice would she give to 7th graders that are coming to SJHS. She said that, “Make something of the time you have in this school. Seventh grade sucks, but school will get better in the future.” For Francesca’s future, she wants to play college volleyball and be a child psychologist. She also said she wants a dog, because she’s always wanted one, but has never gotten one yet.

As Vince Lombardi said, “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” This basically says, we have to be determined to do a good job, and we have to be in it 100%. Francesca is a good example of this, because she always is a hard worker at school, clubs, and sports. Since Francesca is a 9th grader, she will be moving on to high school next year. Even though people move on in life, their influence is imprinted in our school and hearts.
