On January 25 and 26, freshmen at Springville Junior High School went with the Springville High School swim team to regionals. The swim team went to compete at the Orem Recreational Center to swim against Orem High School, Timpview High School, Payson High School, Salem High School, Maple Mountain High School, and Spanish Fork High School. The freshmen who swam at the meet were Halle Acor, Wyatt Bateman, Eleah Coral, Adam Wight, Matt Duncan, and Kelty Cope. All the SJHS swimmers did very well. According to Adam Wight, he had taken some time off his highest swimming record at regionals and is very happy about it.

Not only did the swimmers do well at regionals, but one went above and beyond. Halle Acor was the first freshman swimmer ever to take first place at a regional championship. She swam in two heats: the 200 meter freestyle and the 100 meter butterfly.  The competition she took first place in was the 200 meter freestyle. Mrs. Acor, Halle’s mom, said, “It was a nail biter. Halle out-touched her competition by 1/10th of a second to become the Region 8 Champion.” Halle has been swimming with the Utah Valley Aquatics, also known as the UV Rays, since she was 7. She just started swimming with the Springville High School team this year. According to Halle, she is really happy that she got first in her heat, and she feels like her hard work of swimming has paid off. All the winners of the regional will go to state, Halle Acor being one of them.
