Hill Air Force Base Tops All

On February 19, Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Hansen and Mr Hatfield, Springville Junior High teachers, took a small group of eighth-grade students up to Hill Air Force Base in Ogden for an educational experience. Ben Leishman, a SJHS eighth grader, said, “Hill Air Force Base is a working Air Force Base which holds a museum with lots of cool, old planes.”  According to Chloe Wilson, another eighth grader, it is a big museum with lots of airplanes and artifacts about planes and pilots. Chloe also said, “It was an educational experience that helped us explore science, technology, and the history of flying.” The museum was large and had a lot of information about anything from pilots to the type of fuel planes use.

There was a lot that happened on this field trip including looking at planes, eating outside, and looking at pilot statues, but that is not all the students who went on the field trip did. Tyler Anderson, another eighth grade boy in the group, said, “We saw a lot of planes and got to dress up like astronauts.” According to Ben Leishman, there was a special room the students got to go into where the students flew simulators and tried on pilot clothes after seeing both halves of the museum.  According to Kielle Popham, they got to freely walk around the museums and outside with all the planes. It was really fun and she recommends going there because it was “pretty cool.” Tyler Anderson said, “I learned a lot about planes and I had a great time.”
