Mr. Trent Mikesell is one of the many teachers at SJHS. He teaches seventh-grade English and one period of creative writing. Mr. Mikesell is also on the School Community Council and the Quest Time Committee. “I love all my classes,” said Mr. Mikesell. “I have taught seventh grade the longest, so I am most familiar with it. Seventh graders are so fun to be around; they have so much energy, and it is contagious.” He has been teaching for five year and helped with the gifted and talented group last year. “He is my favorite teacher,” said Anna Gurney, a seventh grader at SJHS.

Mr. Mikesell loves music and plays the piano. He began to play the piano at age seven. Mr. Mikesell has played at weddings, meetings, and he even played the organ for a fireside at the Marriott Center, which was broadcast world-wide. He won several awards as a teenager, including a scholarship to two different piano camps.

Speaking of entertainment, Mr. Mikesell is one of the few teachers that play YouTube videos during class. “They are an important part of my curriculum, and the environment I am trying to create.” said Mr. Mikesell. His favorite videos are Charlie the Unicorn and David After the Dentist. Mr. Mikesell also loves jokes and things that make him laugh. He said that if any student comes into his room (54) and tells him a funny joke that he hasn’t heard, he will give them a piece of candy.
