Mrs. Walker helps students prepare for this year’s musical, Oklahoma

Mrs. Walker, the choir teacher at SJHS, is now teaching a new Quest Time class: Musical Audition Prep.  In this class, she helps students prepare to audition for the 2012 school play, Oklahoma. Audition Prep takes place every Friday in the choir room and will go on every Friday until the musical auditions in January.

In the first two in Audition Prep classes, the students read from scripts, and Mrs. Walker and the other students gave them comments on what they could do better. In the third meeting, Mrs. Walker announced that this year’s school play will be Oklahoma, and gave some information about it. She said, “Now that we have announced this year’s musical, it will be easy for us to work on appropriate songs for auditioning, learning part of a dance, etc. We will also do more work on reading from a script.”

The Quest Time class began on Friday, September 6.  Mrs. Walker said she thought “it would be fun to offer a drama class of some kind, since we don’t have drama classes in our school day.” She hopes the kids in the Audition Prep class will be better prepared when they audition for the school musical and other plays they audition for. Bailey Bird, an eighth grader at SJHS, said that he likes going to this class because he has “lots of friends there” and he “likes reading out of scripts." So, if you like musical theater and have good grades, come on down to Audition Prep!
